光照過強會引起日灼,尤以大陸性氣候、沙地和晝夜溫差劇變情況下更易發生。葉和枝經強光照射後,葉片溫度可提高5~10℃,樹皮溫度可提高10~15℃以上。當樹幹溫度為50℃以上或在40℃持續2小時以上,即會發生日灼。日灼與光強、樹勢、樹冠部位及枝條粗細等均密切相關。

光(guang)照(zhao)的(de)強(qiang)弱(ruo)與(yu)開(kai)花(hua)也(ye)有(you)著(zhe)密(mi)切(qie)的(de)關(guan)係(xi),它(ta)決(jue)定(ding)著(zhe)花(hua)朵(duo)的(de)多(duo)寡(gua)。對(dui)於(yu)喜(xi)陽(yang)植(zhi)物(wu)來(lai)說(shuo),在(zai)同(tong)一(yi)植(zhi)株(zhu)上(shang),受(shou)光(guang)多(duo)的(de)枝(zhi)條(tiao)上(shang)形(xing)成(cheng)的(de)花(hua)芽(ya)較(jiao)背(bei)光(guang)麵(mian)的(de)枝(zhi)條(tiao)多(duo)。在(zai)夏(xia)季(ji)晴(qing)天(tian)多(duo)的(de)年(nian)份(fen),第(di)二(er)年(nian)開(kai)花(hua)植(zhi)物(wu)的(de)花(hua)朵(duo)會(hui)更(geng)繁(fan)茂(mao)。
光照的強弱決定著某些花朵開放的時間。如半支蓮、酢漿草的花朵隻在晴天的中午盛開。月見草、茉莉花、晚香玉隻在傍晚散發芳香。而曇花美麗的花朵在夜間吐露芬芳。牽牛花在清晨日出時刻最為美麗。
光照的強度影響著花色。高山熱帶花卉花朵的色彩較平地花卉花朵色彩更鮮豔。同一品種花卉其花色在室外較室內豔麗。
一般花卉最適宜在全光照50%~70%的條件下生長發育,如果所接受日光少於全光照的50%,花卉生長不良。如超過70%的全光照也會抑製花木生長發育。冬季在室內,若較長時間光照不足,會造成植株徒長,節間距離加長,開花品種的花卉著花少、花色淡,有香味的花,花香淡薄,花木分蘖能力差,而且抵抗能力減弱,易染病蟲害。
花卉對光照要求不同,以其對光照的需求多少不同可分為: 陽性花卉、中性花卉、陰性花卉 。
